What is Qigong and how can it help fertility?

Updated: Nov 19

You may have heard of Tai Chi, a movement exercise from Ancient China that works with energy of the body, Qi.

Qigong is a very similar powerful healing method in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is known as ‘Chinese Yoga.’ I would refer to it as a mixture of acupuncture and yoga for healing. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practised in China for 2000 years.

Through Qigong practice, you work with your Qi to prevent illness and improve health. There are specific exercises for various organs of the body

Similar to acupuncture, in which needles are placed and stimulated at certain acupuncture points on the body that correspond with meridians that pass through the body, Qigong also works with these meridians that are associated with organs in the body. You might have heard of the Spleen, Liver, Heart, Kidney channels in Chinese Medicine or acupuncture. Qigong helps these organs by strengthening them or clearing excess energy that may be present.

How does Qigong help fertility?

1.  Qigong clears negative energy (excess Qi) from the body

There are specific Qigong exercises designed to clear blockages from the organs and channels. I have combined Qigong clearing exercises with meditative energy clearing to create a physical method of clearing specific energy that is detrimental to fertility. This includes mental blockages causing physical issues such as limiting beliefs and trauma that you hold in your body and fertility organs from childhood.

For exercises to release this see the Creation Fertility Healing Programme which is free with acupuncture sessions at Creation Acupuncture.

2.  Qigong can strengthen deficient fertility organs

Qigong specifically supports the Kidney, Liver, Heart and Spleen which are very important for fertility in Chinese Medicine. It can also help to clear stagnant energy such as Damp (causing PCOS) and stagnant Blood (causing endometriosis).

3.  Qigong relieves stress and resolves emotions

Qigong supports emotional health, reducing the stress often involved with trying to become pregnant. Each organ in Chinese Medicine has a corresponding emotion. For example, the Spleen relates to overthinking and anxiety, the Liver to frustration and anger. At different stages of your cycle and at different stages of the fertility process you will naturally experience a mix of emotions. By supporting these corresponding organs, qigong can relieve some of this stress. You can work on this yourself at home, using the specific exercises in the Creation Fertility Healing Programme.

In TCM you also need to work on your emotional state to support your fertility organs. Once you have identified which emotional issues are holding you back on your fertility journey, Qigong exercises can be specifically tailored to clear your own negative emotions.

4.  You can do it yourself

Qigong is safe to undertake yourself. You don’t need to rely solely on others for your healing, it is up to you. Your acupuncturist and fertility doctor can support your body in many ways to improve your fertility but you can also start to take responsibility for your own body and your emotional and physical healing to prepare your body to create a baby.

You can do it at home. You can complete it daily or as often as you like. Qigong helps you to take responsibility for your own healing.
